One of the projects we absolutely love working on with clients is helping them to align their vision and goals.

And then making sure their team are all aligned to help them achieve those goals.

Sometimes, and this is where being an outsider looking in on a business can be helpful, we realise that a company’s vision and values don’t line up.

What do I mean by that?

If a company has a vision of becoming carbon neutral, but the values are based on lowest cost – those don’t necessarily work together. This is a very stark example, so let’s look at it from a people perspective…

If your vision is high efficiency, but your values are around having fun (and believe me that’s more common than you think!) – is having fun taking over from being efficient?

So, are people in your team becoming distracted by the more fun aspects of work, and losing sight of what they are there to achieve?

And even more impactful on a business…

If your vision is based on providing superb customer service, but goals are more aligned with cost cutting, that is just not going to work. Ask any business that is famous for excellent service and they will say that there is a cost. That doesn’t mean you can’t make savings, but not at the risk of delivering poor service.

Clearly, it is about ensuring that both the vision and values work together. And then it is about sharing those with your team.
